Hey wouldn't that be cool if vex made a syestem that would store special programs and activate them when you say a word or phrase. you see my idea is for there to be a box on the robot that can be programed and is plugged into the serial port. there will be a audio reciever on the robot.(i'm not sure if i spelled reciever right) in the box you get with the stuff there wil be a microphone in which you say the phrase that make a specific program work. for example if i say activate program 39 the robot would do the specific program i asigned the name. let me tell you how it would work. first you make a program with easy C. then you get the software from the box that will download the microphone stuff and will work that with easy C. then you say program 39 and that will be the name of the program you made earlier. then you download it to that box thing. then the box thing will be placed on the robot with the audio reciever. then when you say activate program 39 the robot will do as the program was supposed to do. the idea may make alot of money for vex.(i'm talking alot) i would buy it any day if i had the money. if anyone likes the idea please reply. and i hope vex likes my idea.

I agree strongly with nickfrichette (http://www.vexforum.com/member.php?find=lastposter&t=127)'s idea for an audio sensor on the robot. I was actually thinking about it myself the other night. I dont think it would be too awfull hard to make or work with. You could use a simple audio matching program that would take a recorded sample break it down into sound waves and when the microphone recieves input that matches those sound waves it would run a program previously set by something like the easyC programming kit. I think its a fantastic idea and would appeal greatly to the Home market (obviously when your at a compitition shouting through the glass shield wouldnt work to well). The only problems i see with it is finding an inexpensive but reliable microphone that could fit into a small box or boxlike object that would have a decent range (so as your not having to stick your nose into the robot for it to hear you). Another add-on to that would maybe to include a speaker as well, you could have downloadable voice-sets that would respond to commands or could include a program for users to set their own voices into it. This way you know if the robot understood you or not, nothing complicated just something like "Running program ##" or even a simple "yes". I think this is a simply marvolous idea that Vexlabs could make a good chunk of money off of as well as inspire new creation ideas. Please reply to this and tell me if this is a good idea or not and what the problems would be with it.:D

I have a voice recognition circuit that, with a simple interface circuit that I have yet to construct, can do 10 digital outputs depending on the command. And, as I'm sure many well know, the VEX can recieve regular digital input :D . The VEX could simply be programmed to run certain programs if a certain digital input is changed. As this was something I only recently discovered the voice recognition circuit could do, it may be a while before I have any results on this little experiment. Still, this could have some serious possibilities ;) .

it should have a speaker built in so it can ask a question if one it its sensors was set off. such as a cliff sensor (limit sensor on bottom of robot) sensed a cliff it can say cliff sensed what should i do. kind of thing

You could even start to get into a potentially basic AI if you had a sound sensor. It would use keywords and respond to those keywords in a certain way.

An audio sensor would be an awsome idea! I saw a circuit once for voice recognition that uses a two way radio somehow.

What is this circuit? Did you build it, buy it, find plans for it? Any more info? Sounds cool.

ok i saw the circuit in this book
http://www.amazon.com/Robots-Androids-Animatrons-Second-Incredible/dp/0071376836
and it basically had microphone that u could talk into on the bot or u could wire the speaker of a two way radio on the microphone but if u didn't want to take it apart u could "tape" the microphone on the speaker.
