Re: Kublai 5.0 Invades Anaheim: 4252A Worlds Reveal

We're sorry it happened, and just our luck to have it happen in the first round of the finals. We learned a valuable lesson though; make sure every part of your robot is near indestructible. It was...

Re: The first full sized, double trough blocker? :D

Thank you X-Factor. You're correct when you say that we knew people would try to strategize against it, and that discussion is welcome as it also makes our robot better, but seeing people say that...

Re: 2013 US Nationals (Hardest Teams)

Sorry about any confusion, but 1471 won't be able to attend nationals this year.

Also, we don't have very many videos of our current robot, but we did a reveal of both of our previous robots:

Re: The first full sized, double trough blocker? :D

I think I might have seen a video of that one. It had two seperate drive bases kept together by one big cord, but I don't think it expanded to twelve feet.

Re: The first full sized, double trough blocker? :D

Yeah, it doesn't count as scored because "it must remain in a Scored position, if/when all Robots were removed from the field. (i.e. The Scoring Object must not be supported by the Robot.)" Taken...

No, they would be considered supported by the robot.

Re: The first full sized, double trough blocker? :D

We think that the brakes will be able to handle a robot geared 1:5. You can't see them very well in the pictures, but the basically shove a pin into the chain which completely stops the wheel from...

Re: 1471A Sack Attack Omnomnom reveal

I need to know a little more about your robot and strategy before I can give you any good recommendations. Do you want to reach the high goal with only your lift? How many motors do you have...

Re: 1471A Sack Attack Omnomnom reveal

Sure! Our lift uses four 393s that are geared 1:5 for torque. We wanted a lift that was fast, but could still hold a lot of weight, and we found that this works well.

Re: 918A Panther Bots at Nevada Winter Regional

That's a really impressive lift you guys have. It's really quick for being geared 1:5. As for the tipping, our team found that putting c-channel on our drive train that extends as far as it could...

Re: Programming help/sample code for programming motor encoders

We don't actually have the integrated encoders, but I assume that the code should be similar. they're fairly simple to program. At the very least, all you have to do is set your motors to drive...

Re: How to minimize friction when sliding intake on ground?

We find that sanding down the polycarbonate helps to reduce friction. Also, if you run your intake rollers while you're driving forward, you can pull yourself along! :D

Re: PID and Preset Arm Heights Request

I would like to se this answered. We also tried to use an potentiometer and buttons on the controller, but it would stutter when it was going up. Other than that, a quick fake code that you can use...

Re: Line Sensors in Sack Attack

Our team thinks that line sensors are probably a bad idea in this game for the exact reason you stated. They have to be relatively close to the ground to get an accurate reading, and this can cause...

Re: 1615A Reveal

Nice looking robot. How well can you strafe with your mecanum drive? We actually had to remove our mecanums because we found that when we held too many sacks, the strafing didn't work well.

Re: 2213-A Robot Reveal

Okay, that makes sense. One suggestion I would give you is to put some some sort of bar by the intake rollers in order to stop them from going over. You can see it in our reveal post:...

Re: Design notes, 8888Z sack attack

That's impressive, especially for a freshman team. Do you find that you're able to descore using your wrist? We were considering doing something similar for one of our other teams.

Re: 2213-A Robot Reveal

Looks like a great robot! One question, do you have any problems with having the sacks go up your ramp as you intake them? Our robot had problems with the sacks falling onto each other and they would...

Re: 1471A Sack Attack Omnomnom reveal

Just a quick update: We've got the arm converted to aluminum and have noticed it goes up faster. We've also learned to descore into our own intake and we can descore about 10 sacks into our intake...

Re: Polycarbonate plate + Intake?

This is good advice. Also, one problem we had was that our spatula was sagging in the middle. This shouldn't cause too much of a problem, but if you still have the problem, making a good mount should...
