Vex Worlds 2012 - Strongest Regions

Only 254B said about a Hawaii team. Hawaii may not do as strong sometimes but some teams to watch out for may be:
2438A and C: Both have good sturdy design builds.
1973's: All use NZ design to full efficiency.
2439A&X: 2 different designs, but good builds.
359:Competed well in every competition they went to.

Middle School:
394: Use a variety of robot designs. All sturdy built.
368's: Tons of teams all with good basic designs.

No, I did as well. New Zealand has a TONNE of good teams, just in previous years many of them didn't qualify, and this year many can't afford to go.

Just going to worlds (in High School) are:

2921 - Free Range
2915A - Lynfield College
2915B - Lynfield College
720P - aMax
2900A - Onehunga High School
2919A - Kristin School
2941A - Otumoetai College

all of which are super competitive teams.
On top of that there a bunch of other super competitive teams who weren't able to go for whatever reason.

There's certainly more than a few "good" teams in New Zealand .

Hehe.... nope... You are definitely not the only one

Same for Singapore too... yesss... we are small.... but take a look at the global ranking for skill challenges this year (if the link is still up)... you will see the depth that we have this year

That said, I have the utmost respect for all teams that made it to World this year.... especially for this year game - the game can change dramatically at the last few seconds. So no room for complacency or lapse in concentration.

Thanks for the mention. I should clear this up on the forums, though: we don't divide our teams by letter. The school motto is "one team", which we apply rather literally, since everyone works on every high school robot. We registered three teams so that we can have two robots at Worlds if we qualify; the third letter is so that we can have an Intermediate team for our seventh graders.

I won't give out any real spoilers on the robot without permission, since I'm not going to Worlds with the team, but lemme just say it's not going to be easy to defend against.

Hawaii doesn't get much credit as a region because there aren't many people here who are super active on the forums (not sure this thread qualifies as "strongest regions" so much as "regions with most members represented on VEXforum"), but there's a remarkable abundance of high-quality robots here on a yearly basis despite our comparatively tiny size. Islander buddies from Singapore and New Zealand, we all know where it's at. :P

Here's Nightcrawler - a bigger, badder version of what 8192 came up with. Totally independently! We saw the 8192 robots at worlds last year and thought it was a pretty good design.

I'll let my daughter gush about her inspiration from How Its Made on improving to a pantograph scissor lift. (Notice the extra bar for stability)

Yep true. But last years worlds proved our region to be one of the thoughest. My point is that alot of good teams from our region didnt qualify to worlds. Ur right i havnt seen the nz semi finals nor qualifications. I take my word back. Sorry guys i was getting exited

I honestly think that southern california is one of the toughest regions around. Especially the team in the Los Angeles area.

Indiana
1193 B (Won 3 of 6 competitions they attended plus many design/excellence awards)
1193 A (Won 2 of 6 competitions they attended plus design/excellence awards)
1001 (They may be a middle school team, but they competed and beat many HS teams.)

There may not be a ton of teams from Indiana this year, but the quality is definitely up from years past.

You could hold a tournament with 23 made-up teams, and then win because all the other teams had perpetual no-shows.
