A little confused

Now, I haven't been following BB that much but I've been seeing team #'s in the seven thousands. Does BB have over 7000 teams or do teams get to choose their numbers?

I'm assuming they choose their numbers.

The team numbers go by school. So the school is assigned a number, then the number of the team from the school. For example a school's number could be 245 and the team could be the second one from the school, so the number would be 245-2.
