Alternative answer to 360 count Optical encoder

Original question: How can I have Vex Optical Encoders read 0 to 360 Counts corresponding to one complete revolution of a Vex Motor, since the Vex Optical Encoder resolution is just 100 CPR?

Original answer: You cant, encoder provides 90 cpr.

Alternative answer: Put the encoder on the output of a 4:1 gear box
instead of directly on the motor shaft. This gearbox need not necessarily
do anything but drive the encoder.
