Bevel
gears are conical-shaped gears used in machines where a change in the output
shaft’s direction is desired. The shafts must intersect. They may intersect at any angle, with 90 degrees the most common. The
teeth are the same basic shape as a spur gear’s teeth, but have a slight taper towards the apex of the cone.
