2 bar vs. 4 bar

  1. 4 days ago

    Hello

I am currently using an irregular 4 bar that works great but relies too much on elastics.

I have seen people use a 5:1 ratio with no elastics and manage to get better results.

Is there a loss of power in a 4 bar compared to a 2 bar?

    Thanks

    2 bars weigh less

  3. Depends on how you make the 4 bar. But most people that have a irregular 4 bar are likely to hang with it so you can't use too much elastics. However with a 2 bar you can rotate the arm back more and still hang if you have a light enough robot.

Using a 4 bar has a higher mechanical advantage than a 2 bar because the fulcrum is closer to the load.

@AG256 Using a 4 bar has a higher mechanical advantage than a 2 bar because the fulcrum is closer to the load.

May I ask for a further elaboration on this statement? From what I know, the fulcrum is always on your lift towers, regardless of 2- or 4-bar. Unless I have the wrong understanding on this?
