1/2" VersaHex Adapters v2

The forum has a lot of great ideas when it comes to substituting the Vex VersaHubs used with the 3" & 4" Flex wheels but has anyone found a way to mount the 1.625" & 2" wheels that require the 1/2" VersaHex Adapters?

They are currently backordered until October.

Could experiment with jamming various gears, sprockets and things into the .5" hole and see if anything fits well enough. maybe something like a 6t sprocket with chain wrapped around could work?

Cleaner way to do it would probably be to make some polycarbonate discs that sandwich the wheel, and have standoffs running through the spokes but that would be a lot of effort and might take out more compression from the wheel then desired.

It may stretch over a shaft collar.

They easily fit over a 12 tooth HS metal gear.

Here’s how I like to do it:

put a HS 12t metal gear in it and sandwich it in between two polycarbonate circles (≈1” diameter)

can confirm

Sliding them over the low strength clamping shaft collars without the clamping hardware works pretty well. Seems really hard to slide off.

So current options:

  • 12t HS gear
  • 6t sprocket with some sort of tread on it
  • LS clamping shaft collar
  • lockbars and screws through spokes
  • Maybe even a HS 36t gear with screws (like people do with sprockets and bigger flex wheels)
