Often times, when facing a limitation or restriction, the best approach is not necessarily figuring out how to “make the same thing” that someone without that same limitation or restriction is making, but to re-imagine the problem entirely.
If you think in terms of “I need a motorized clamp to control the Mogo”, your problem statement already includes the solution. Instead, if you reframe the question as “I need to be able to control a Mogo without the use of pneumatics”, you can open yourself up to other possible solutions, since clamping onto the Mogo isn’t the only way to control it.
When Vex penalized pneumatics use by decreasing the available motor-count, Team 71K (and others, but they are the first to come to mind) came up with creative motor-sharing techniques. See for example:
