Need and want are two different things; in theory you only need a 4 motor drive & 2 motor lift not to stall. Beyond that is just your personal preference and strategy.

Oh, we had a four motor drive. it was just on full torque.
torque bases are fine in my opinion. Just that after experiencing a 6 motor highspeed base on the last robot, controllers can’t deal with the “slowness”
Yeah, having a slow base after seeing a faster base is annoying, no matter what you get from it. I’m still trying to figure out a way to pull off 4 motor turbo…
don’t. Tried that last year in a 2 inch wheel holonomic config. The motors died mid competition
