So we bought 12 inch shafts for our robot, and we just realized the robot size is 11x19. Does the shaft being 12 inches make our bot illegal? Were making the spitfire and i think they used 12 inch shafts too.
For vex iq, the rule for size in the game manual is R5. If your IQ robot exceeds the requirements of r5, it is illegal.
I assume you’re asking the question because you plan to use a 12-in shaft where you actually need a shaft a little shorter than 11 in. If this is the case, you need a hacksaw and file, or perhaps a Dremel tool with a cut off wheel.

In IQ im pretty sure were not allowed to cut or saw shafts off. Did they change that?

It’s allowed now, Rule R13 “Cutting metal VEX IQ or VEX V5 shafts to custom lengths is permitted. This is the only legal exception to this rule.”

Just remember safety first. Have an adult supervise and make sure the shaft is held in stable position, and wear eye protection. Cut metal will be sharp, so please file the cut edge with sand paper or a metal file.
