12" Shafts

Hi there,

This is my first post so I’ll try not to screw it up, but:

I was wondering if the 12" Vex EDR shafts were legal for Vex IQ Bank Shot. I’ve seen many teams at competitions and online using these shafts and passing inspection, justified via rule R6a, which states that parts from the Vex EDR & Pro line are legal as long as they are cross listed for Vex IQ. Though some shafts are cross listed, not all are. So, yeah, this is causing some confusion, and I just wanted to confirm whether they were legal or not.

BTW, if they’re not legal, it would be really nice if we could have a shaft coupler that holds shafts in with lots of friction, or at least allowing the 12" shafts to be legal. It is so nice having a shaft able to span all the way across a robot! Right now our best chance would be to use lots of worm gears lol.

The 12" shafts are legal and included in the IQ line in the long shaft add-on pack (as are 11", 10", 9", 8", 7", 6", 5.5", 5", and 4.5" shafts).

In a pinch, stacking up four lock plates together works reasonably well as a coupler.

We have used worm gears as shaft couplers. They are significantly smaller than the four lock plates
