170a Short Circuits First Vex Robot

We are a H.S. team. This is our first foray into Vex. We competed in the 11/12/11 Technomage league event and had five wins, only one loss, one tie.
Here is our bot. Its based on a H drive train with Omni wheels. Extends to 32" and is has a fully adjustable angling system.

We welcome any comments or suggestions. We havent put our sensors on yet, everything is set with mechanical stops at the moment.

First, thanks for sharing the pictures of your team’s robot.

Second, I think it looks great! With the use of a simple pivot and the linear slides you made a simple but effective intake and lift. A few sensors and I think you will be set.

Are you using Aluminum for the intake structure to ease the load on your lifts? Besides some sensors to help automate your lift, using the lighter Aluminum parts would be my only suggestion if you aren’t already.

That’s a handsome robot with a clever solution to extending to the necessary height. Good luck this year.

Without seeing yours drive, it looks like you might have improved on the original. Imho though, there were better designs out there to use than 1437z’s.

Thanks. We arent using any aluminum as of now. Our budget didnt allow for it. We just added the power expander and dual 3000mah batts. Everything seems to have all the power it needs.

AS for seeing it drive, there is a prelimenary brivetrain video on our Youtube Page here:

I added some of the vids from the recent Technomage league event on 11/12/11

thank you for sharing your design
the main thing i can see is in http://www.youtube.com/user/NAHSrobotics170A?feature=mhee#p/a/u/2/UDDoGu80BlU
i see you having a lot of problems picking up off the ground so i would suggest you extend the whole intake tread system unless anyone else has a better idea

the only thing I could say about that is most likely what your noticing is drivers with minimal exeperience. The intake tracks pick up at about 3/4" off the mat. The whole extension system must be all the way down to pick up at that level. I assume the Intake wasnt pully retracted.
