So what are some of the 1st things you are going to do at worlds (other than unpacking, checking in, inspection etc.) I am talking about what to eat, what to play or even if you are meeting other teams to start relationships with them. Me personally, I’m going to jump in the hotel pool like how me and my team did in 2022, it just brings nostalgia for some reason.
(my bad for the wording, just don’t know how to say it)
Not even joking, last year our schools 3 teams (about 20 people) got together and played smash bros at night in one hotel room But what we usually do the first day we arrive is eat at this place called Rodeo Goat, it’s been a school tradition for like 3 years.
It all depends on what’s your team’s objectives and goals when going to worlds.
If the main focus is just to get the exposure, then yes - please go out and make friends and connections and have a list of teams that you want to learnt from and visit their booths.
if the team’s main objective is just to have fun - then by all means jump into the pool and spend all your time inside.
If your team’s main objective is to be competitive and try to progress as far as possible, then you will need to do your scouting, fine-tune your autonomous, etc.
Enjoyment and sightseeing will come after the tournament.
Last year, my friend brought his entire ps4 to play after the day would end It was fun playing fortnite split screen after playing wall ball at the AT&T square thing
Very much agreed, and it accomplishes some other tasks along the way as well. Even if the main intent is not to do scouting, just by proxy of walking around and learning/talking to other teams, you can spot their robots and note details. Also, it never hurts to make friends before alliance selection.
After inspection, unless the robot is falling apart, I go around and view the other pits and get the merch they give out (such as stickers, 3D printed parts, and pins).
We also go and get some bbq, and go around and see our friends from my state.
Oh that’s practically tradition at every competition my team travels to, except we bring a Nintendo switch and have it connect to the hotel TV. The two games we usually bring are smash and mario kart. Hotels usually let you borrow an HDMI cable free of charge so you only really need to bring the docking station.
Theres some nice Texas BBQ places that I often arrange to eat at with some of my international/interstate friends I know from robotics. Thats always a blast.
I’m gonna go get some of the root beer.
I think it’s called Pecos Pete’s and it is absolutely amazing, they had a store for it near where all of the other food is inside of the convention center. I’m pretty sure its coming back this year (I really hope so cause it was one of the best parts of our trip to Worlds last year.)
