1x5x1 Steel C-Channels Asymmetrical Dimensions

Making an Onshape FeatureScript for generating Vex metal, I noticed that the 1x5x1 Steel C-Channel has slightly different dimensions than all other C-Channels that I measured in CAD.

All these models were downloaded directly from the Vex website below the product listing.

The “Parallel Dist” measurement is the measurement in question:

The measurements of a 1x5x1 Aluminum C-Channel which are equal

Identical measurements of 1x2x1 Aluminum C-Channel are also equal

Identical measurements of 1x2x1 Steel C-Channel are different due to the steel's thickness. However the two measurements are equal between both sides.

Identical measurements of a 1x5x1 Steel C-Channel are different due to metal thickness, but are also different between two sides.

Therefore, the holes on 1x5x1 steel C-Channel are 0.01" off from what’s expected based on the other C-Channels’ measurements.

Is this an intended difference or an error in the models provided?

This is indeed an error in the VEX supplied CAD model. This was manually fixed for the Fusion library and I maybe for the Inventor library as well.

You should join the VEX CAD Discord server if you haven’t already.

I fixed it for Inventor. We will make a full set fix for V1.4. We didn’t realize this was an issue until earlier this week. 1.4 should be coming soon.
