2014 VEX/FRC Championship date conflict

Safe to assume RECF won’t be rearranging this year as was done before?

2014 World Championship Vex Robotics
Start Date 04/25/2014
End Date 04/26/2014

the 2014 FIRST Championship will take place in St. Louis, MO - April 23-26.Save the Date:

I honestly can’t see both events being pulled off simultaneously due to the amount of volunteer overlap they have. One or the other will move, I’m sure of it.

While I understand and agree with the volunteer issue, I don’t see either program moving. Venue contracts for events of this magnitude are signed usually a year in advance or more.

Plus VEX with the introduction of IQ now has its own full progression of programs and is more likely interested in keeping kids in the “VEX program” just as FIRST is. Teams who do both and qualify for both, will end up having to choose.

Program competition aside, both FIRST and VEX could easily more than double (or even triple) in size without and school overlap and still not even come close to reaching every school in the US, much less outside the US.

Going forward it is more likely that championship date conflicts will occur more often than not.

Is the VEX Championship only 2 days, the 25th and the 26th?

Looking at it, it also says 2013 was only a two day event, so I doubt anything is changing. Whatever is wrong with the dates there can’t be reality…

I think it was announced as 23-26 at the World Champs this year.

Looks like they also booked another hall and some extra rooms, which is good, because World’s seemed pretty packed this year.

Will there be the problem again next year with the Vex Dome overfilling? I know there were security guards making sure everyone was out of the walkways… but it sure seemed pretty full.

In regards to the date conflict, I know it will affect our VEX team very much (if our FRC team makes it to St. Louis). Of the 7 people who went to World’s this year, only 2 of them aren’t involved with FRC.

That link ^ says 2013 had
Arena, Hall A & B, Room 201-204
Wasn’t Hall C used as well? Also the rooms were they used for judging or why did I never see them?

We had hall c this year. We didnt have it in 2012.

I hope that one program or the other will move because picking between one or the other is not difficult just in terms of deciding which you like better but also, in terms of logistics. FRC qualifying events occur later in the year than most VEX qualifiers. If you qualify at an early VEX event and register then, you go to your FRC event knowing there’s no chance that you will be able to go to the championship (you can still have fun at the competition but it sucks to know nothing more will come out of it). If you wait until the FRC event, there’s no guarantee that your team will qualify and if you don’t, unless there are more VEX events after your regional/district, your not going to any world championships that year.
