How did you tether the two bots together? Did you use one brain? It’s just this video gave inspiration for our team to build something using a tether and we aren’t sure how to do it.

I’m fairly certain they used string

Yes, it’s only legal to have one brain. This means they tethered the bots together at least partially with the wires themselves

Too tether two bots you have one brain and if the then you get cable stock and cut it to the correct length to connect motors together. when doing this be careful once you’ve done this to be careful with the cable as if you drive over the cable you might break it so use some kind of protection on the cable . String isn’t necessarily impotent though unless there is some mechanism that requires this. The cable you cut i would recommend at 2 - 3 Meters.

Is it legal to cut cable? What do you mean by cable stock, can I buy it from vex?

Yes it legal to cut cable per

R23 Custom V5 Smart Cables are allowed. Teams must use official V5 Smart Cable Stock but may
use commodity 4P4C connectors and 4P4C crimping tools. Teams who create custom cables acknowledge that incorrect wiring may have undesired results.

It looks like I was assuming you had V5 if you don’t thats fine.
Anyway here is the link for cable stock i should of specified this is if you have V5

They mentioned that they used cable in addition to string so that if their robots were at the limits of the tether, they’d be pulling on the string and not the wires, which were slightly shorter.

we are making the same design and are almost done with it. it is way crappier than this one tho.

Surely this bot is very easy to be entangled in and therefore illegal, it’s awesome to see tho!

Wouldn’t the rope be an entaglement risk?

To all of the people talking about entanglement risks:
No, no it’s not going to entangle robots. If you actually bothered to read the other comments you’d see that they ran some tests and no robots got stuck. The string is very slack.

+1

The rope is on the floor and can probs span the length of the field 3-4 times. It has so much slack it’s impossible to trip over

Cool, did they test with intakes that ran on the ground or tank treads? I’m just asking cuz I want to make sure a bot like this isn’t possibly illegal

Impossible to get pulled into a drive train and entangled? The fact that it does not have rigid backing makes it an entanglement risk. The OP though spoke about backing it with lexan somewhere in this thread. That might address the issue but as it stands there is a patent risk of entanglement with this design.

My bad. If I remember correctly, one of the improvements they said they wanted to make was to make the rope longer. Idk what u mean by getting pulled into the drivetrain however. We might be thinking abt different things

I’m assuming what he meant was that the string got stuck on some sort of wheel, getting stuck in the drivetrain when the wheel rotated.

This was tested with 315G turning point robot as well as the tether bots themselves. The bots did not get tangled. If you want to ensure no one will raise concerns, please refer to the FAQ document where we noted how the tether can be improved.

Ok, thank you

Where did you get the rope? Our team was thinking about making a deployment system similar to this.

They have this higher up
