So time to have some fun. Given that they released the new Gen 2 kits early instead of after the season, there are obviously parts in this new Gen 2 kit intended for next years challenge robots. Looking at the new parts, the Cam / linear motion beams, Spool, Truss Components, and the ropes standout. Yeah, some of this stuff is likely bringing it up to par with V5 parts to be more flexible, but if we look back now at the flywheel release early last year, they make new parts likely needed for upcoming challenges and get them out there.
Does the spool and rope hint at a fishing game, so maybe we finally get a water game???
Yay! Love these threads. My prediction is that we have 4 octagonal towers that go up to 24 inches, with little hooks on them that you score triangular pyramids on, with a tower in the center that releases when both teams press on it. And since it folds down into a ramp, you can drive onto at the end of the match for extra points. The scoring towere woiuld spin too, allowing you to score on all sides of it.
If you look at all the new parts in the Gen 2 kit, some of these parts were likely designed for whatever next years challenge will be. I have no Intel, but as i mentioned, they created the Flywheel and released it in the middle of last season when it wasn’t needed then and once they released this years game, you can tell it was likely created then while there were building/designing the game to support this years robot designs.
We would have never seen the Gen 2 kits until after the next game reveal if there wasn’t a parts shortage, likely highlighting the new parts rereleased in that games Hero bot. I also have to assume as they are designing the next years game, they (VEX engineers) are building out all types of robot prototypes to test the challenge and thus needed some new parts to be more effective.
So this is all for fun, guessing what the challenge might be by using some of the new parts released in Gen 2
TossUp was way before V5. Teams were still remembering using the 292 motors and were just getting used to using exclusively 393s.
Also the VEX IQ game that was played alongside TossUp seems like a pretty good game (and a good TossUp IQ port). I doubt VEX would release a game similar to that ( now FIRST on the other hand… ).
I really want more shooting games. Preferably something closer to the shooting in nothing but net but bringing some elements back from turning point like a king of the hill aspect akin to the platforms from 2018-19
I would like it because it would make for a much more interseting set of designs. Especially say, if you were to have to complete objectives while you were moving. I would love a game where you need a 4m drive, 1m winch, and then something to interact with the game elements. I feel like I never change my base drivetrain, and would love a game where I get to experiment with like say a kiwi drive, or maybe have an excellent excuse to use those shock absorber pieces.
