Okay, to be specifically accurate, its true that the GDC is made of representatives of both companies, but the competition itself is run by RECF. My greater point, however, is that decisions of what parts are competition legal are not driven by competition, but by educational use. For example, the 5.5 watt smart motors mentioned above were developed for an educational product, and might become competition legal, not the other way around. Similarly, there is a whole line of hexbug toys, and many of those parts are declared legal for competition.

Personally, I would very much hope that decisions as to which parts are competition legal are primarily driven by the competition use for those parts.

Yeah I’m doing Vex V5 Robotics (Again because I do a grade higher robotics than I’m supposed too) I really want to see the 2022-2023 game I’m really curious

It was hinted at that the reason the 5.5W motors are not legal is the fear that they would not be able to make them available to teams and be able to fulfil orders for the kits that they come with due to supply chain issues. There are other valid reasons sometimes.
