2587Z Worlds Reveal, Video!

Reveal video: https://vimeo.com/40536229

Showcase photo album here.

Specs:

8 motor drive.
Pneumatic 4 bar lift.
“boa constrictor” collector morphs around game pieces.

Yay, my constant refreshing turned up something!

Looks like a good robot, and different from what many are doing. I just have a few questions/possible criticisms

Can it descore?
Can it score over the isolation wall into the opposite 20in goal?
Your capacity is three, right?

Also, what is the bar sticking out of your lift for in this picture?

Nice 8-motor drive! Care to share your drive ratio?

We chose this design over the standard traybot in order to stand out.

It cannot score into the opposite 20inch. But we prefer interaction as we can get to the middle tower very quickly in auton and feed the isolation zone faster then most.

Capacity is 5-7 with human loading and 4-5 when it collects by itself.
It can descore the medium and high goals with the collector gate extended. It descores the low goals with the bottom of the collector, like a traybot. It can also descore corner goals that are jammed full very quickly.

The are you referring the c-channel under the lift or the single bar suspended above the white barrel? The c-channel braces the 4 bars together and the single bar helps us pick up the stacked balls and barrels in the skills challenges.

Drive is 2:1, In matches where we need more torque (pushing wallbots!) we can switch sprockets to 1:1. Although 8 motors at 2:1 is plenty!

Thanks for watching!

Very good design. I especially like the pneumatic lift. Also the lights are a good touch. I look forward to seeing you guys and your robot again this year.

P.S. The music was a bit much though.

This video and robot is exactly why I love the Discobots no matter what level of robotics!

  • Question.

What did you film this with?

  • Andrew

That is the most interesting dual tank tread robot I’ve seen so far.
Also, great video

Questions
How many air tanks?
1 or 2 drivers? (Because you have separate intake tread control)

Andrew,

Gear we used:
Panasonic GH2 with an EOSHD intra hack.
Panasonic 14-42 kit lens
Olympus 50 f/1.4
Arri lights: 150, 300, & 650
Arrisun 1k with a chimera softbox functioning as barn doors (we removed the diffusion screen)

TGN,

3 air tanks. We have a pneumatic wall bot mechanism we might add when we get to Anaheim tomorrow. We will add a 4th tank if need be.

1 driver.

“We eat green eggs and cheesy poofs for breakfast”
Nice.

I’m depressed we were never able to battle you in Texas competitions at our best (Our robot sucked until about december). Good Luck, I’m rooting for you guys.

I must say… As a camera guy? I am officially impressed. The cinematography was amazing. Not to mention the fantastic slow-shutter, the on-robot lighting, and a few other very amazing photography tricks…

As a hardware person? I am also impressed. The pnuematic lift is hard, and y’all look like you have cracked it pretty well. (I was gonna say something about cracking an egg right there… a green egg… :P) But yes. I’ll be looking forward to watching that eight-motor drive push everyone else around like GER did last year.

What did you guys use for your LEDs?

See this thread! https://vexforum.com/showpost.php?p=297007&postcount=6

We used 12inch 12v strips and a 9v battery.
