276-2194 - Cortex Velcro Dots

All,
Since the launch of the product, the Cortex Microcontroller has included (2) velcro dots to help hold in the VEXnet Key.

We’ve seen a number of instances where users have damaged their keys when removing them from the Cortex (they bend the key up too much while disconnecting it from the Velcro). We’ve done significant testing of this issue recently and determined that the Velcro is NOT needed in the majority of circumstances, and in fact causes problems in some cases. As such, we are removing it from the Cortex Microcontroller (276-2194) in an attempt to prevent further key damage.

We are urging competition users who are worried about their key getting bumped loose to use electrical tape to help hold in their key (this went out in a manual update recently). All other applications should be fine without any retention method (the key is in there pretty snugly).

Please note that sometime in the near future, Cortex units will stop shipping with Velcro (this will be a rolling change which will take affect as we sell through old inventory).
Let me know if you have any questions on this change.

Great to see the continued product improvement.
Thanks a lot
