2919M Robot Reveal - CAD photos

Hey everyone

Here is an album of my robot from all angles and positions: Toss Up 2014 - 2919M Robot - Album on Imgur

Here is also a video of the finals match at New Zealand nationals which my robot competed in: [http://youtu.be/UAkevvawq64?t=5m9s (At the beginning of the match, my robot is in the blue team, middle zone starting tile).

Thanks,
Marco](http://youtu.be/UAkevvawq64?t=5m9s (At the beginning of the match, my robot is in the blue team, middle zone starting tile).)

Awesome!! The blue autonomous was mind blowing.

I like how your robot, after it hangs, slowly swings…

Why did you get the “Amaze” award?
Do you know why were you picked by 7682E?
I am not implying that you should not have gotten those things, (I hope it doesn’t come off that way,) I am just curious.

Awesome work!

Why did New Zealand nationals only qualify 5 teams to Worlds? Or do other NZ tournaments qualify folks to come east across the Pacific to the US?

There’s no “awesomeness bump up” of spots for a country that consistenly sends some of the best robots to worlds? (Or keep the spots relative to the math of teams proportionally and not give out endless grandfathered spots like FRC does)

I have no idea of the total number of Vex teams in NZ but this compares to a 60 team state in the US. There were 65 teams at this NZ event.

This year there were no other worlds-qualifying events in New Zealand, although there have been in the past.

As far as I know, the number of worlds spots is allocated purely off the number of teams in a region. If you look at the list of states here the number of teams in NZ compared to worlds spots sits approximately in line with states with a similar number of teams (perhaps NZ is shortchanged a little? I also don’t know how many teams are registered from NZ.)

Of course, teams who win worlds are also issued with an invite (which often seems to include at least one NZ team…) as well as NZ teams having the opportunity to qualify from global skills rankings like everyone else.

Back on topic: Congratulations on your performance at nationals Marco, I loved all of the unique features on your robot, particularly the hanging hook!

Best of luck to your team for next seasons competition!

Thanks, I suppose that’s what happens when you hang with string.

First off, the amaze award goes to the team with an amazing, well rounded and top performing robot. Does that answer your question? Don’t worry it didn’t come across that way

For your second question, firstly I did talk with 7682E before the selection process and they seemed confident with my robots abilities (it could do everything except high hang, descore, and catapult).

Other than that, I was the first on the list for third picks because of my qualification round ranking of 15, which I found to the perfect place as a third pick team.

If you want a better reason, I’d advise you to ask them yourself :stuck_out_tongue: I can’t speak on behalf of them on that decision.

Thanks  I think telemascope answered that question you had properly about the reason for only 5 teams qualifying.

Thanks man  haha unique I guess was how to describe that hook!

Congrats for 2941A at the nationals, that was a tough finals, and I hope they do well at the worlds!

That auton was amazing! Very we’ll coordinated. Good Job!!

Hey  thanks! The programmer in my team had only the time between the quater finals and semi finals to program a completely new autonomous to work with 7682’s autonomous. He’s a great programmer! :stuck_out_tongue:

This is a really nice CAD model, and well done on Nationals finals :).

There are certainly more than 65 teams in NZ. Nationals has a limited capacity, and for many teams it’s a long trip. I don’t know what the actual number is, though. It’s difficult to know since some teams rarely come to events.

And yes, there are only 5 spots that are available exclusively to teams competing in NZ. All 5 are awarded at Nationals. So yes, NZ gets a little fewer qualification spots than a US state with the same number of teams. Even so, NZ teams don’t always make use of their Worlds qualifications (it’s very expensive to travel that far). If teams find winning NZ Nationals too high a bar and they can’t make the (sometimes mysterious) awards process work for them, they have opportunities to get global qualifications.

This year New Zealand won 6 global slots: The Autodesk Sustainable Design Challenge (5606A), two World Champion slots (2915A and 2941D) and three skills slots (2915A, 2941B and 7682). Three of these qualifications went to teams that qualified at Nationals (one to 5606A and two to 2915A), so NZ has a total of 8 teams this year who are eligible to attend worlds. I don’t know yet how many actually plan to.

Thanks Oliver  It’s the 5th version of my CAD model too, I have started to really enjoy CADing

Thanks also for that (: It was a tough finals but I’m just so happy I got that far, was well worth all the stress from that last day and coming straight from school camp too!

I forgot about that part of the story. The fact that you guys go on camp the week before makes your achievements at Nationals over the years all the more impressive.

Yeah it does make it slightly tougher I guess, not being able to work up to the nationals and coming back super tired, but like you said, it just makes it more of an achievement for all our teams  Next year, I get back on thursday instead of friday so woot! One more day of getting ready :stuck_out_tongue:

Your robot is very good! It been great playing matches with and against you all throughout the season :stuck_out_tongue: your robot is extremely reliable and I’ve had a lot of fun having to come up against you in the finals of one of the regionals AND the Nationals!

Thanks Steve  So is yours! I’ve really enjoyed this season and I really wish you well in the worlds! Those finals really were tough!

The deciding factor for 7682E + 7682 was actually autonomous capabilities and willingness to write new code ensuring our alliance was dominant during eliminations. Great work Marco and team!

Ahh alright I see thanks. Yes Jerry, my programmer, was great at providing a quick new program for fitting in with your autonomous routine  Thanks and you too! Was a great nationals.
