3D Modeling Software

Hey I haven’t done vex in a while. I am trying to run the club at my job for highschoolers for V5. What program can we use for the 3D modeling? is fusion the only one with the library download?

First I think this is the wrong section.
But anyway,
Fusion 360 in my experience has been quite fiddly and hard to use, onshape seems to be better

For some reason, this discussion is labled as VEX IQ - anyways, there are a variety of softwares that you can actually use.
Onshape, like joe mentioned, is web-based and is alright for use. You also have other CAD software like Inventor and Fusion 360, although those are slightly more confusing to use. Another primary one some people use is Protobot, which is solely dedicated for VEX. All of them have respective libraries, and there’s videos/tutorials online if you need help.

My team uses protobot, as it was the cheapest option. It works well for demonstrating ideas and is super easy to use. This is in the wrong category.

Protobot is perfectly good to get started, especially if you have no plans to become a mechanical engineer in the future, but most of the commercial CAD software, (including OnShape, SolidWorks, Fusion, Inventor) have no-cost education licenses… how do you get “cheaper” than $0?

I used to use protobot but it became dead and wasn’t getting updated so i switched to fusion 360 which is a little more difficult to use but you can make better and more precise models. I will say though the community has come together and made a revised and updated version of protobot that should be checked out if you are still using the original “dead” protobot

Protobot is perfect for beginners, and I moved to Onshape after that.

All CAD’s have a learning curve, I have tried Fusion and Onshape, (not Probot, will try) Onshape is a lot easier to learn, but fusion is a lot more powerful and advanced. You can imagine Onshape as a middle level CAD with middle level capabilities, where Fusion is a advanced CAD that is very powerful.

Also I think you meant to put this as v5 discussion, not IQ.
