any constructive criticism is appreciated we have been sitting around driving.
we could hang but most of the time we fell back down to a low hang.

Well, if you’re looking for something to do I’d program more autonomous routines, and if you have the pneumatics I’d add a catapult

we’ve been working on our programming skills for tsa state in 4 days but were going to work on our autonomous as soon we get back

The bucky ball intake looks pretty good, maybe even magic. However your big ball rollers look like you need a wall or some object to intake large balls. I’d recommend fixing that, unless that is they don’t.

If your basically done with your robot besides programming, I would take the time to go back through your intake and get it perfect. Your buckyball intake needs to be able to touch the buckyball and it gets sucked in. Same with your large ball intake.

Perfect your current robot and you will be good

it is a magic intake but it isn’t perfect. yes we have to drive the big balls into a wall to pick them up. we have been trying to figure out how to pick them up with the wall but we can’t figure it out.

We have lots of videos you can look at: https://www.youtube.com/user/Team323ZRobotics/videos

We had a REALLY good large ball intake at Warren I (at least I thought it was good). You just need to mess around with flaps, bumpers, chain, and different sprocket sizes. The length of the intake matters as well.

This intake was pretty good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy0o8lOOjrk&list=LLB1KDe5eGia-XUAUCA9q38Q&feature=share

thanks we’ve just been trying flap configuration and they don’t work to well

Have you tried a passive latching system.

im not really sure how to build one we looked at 4080a’s but couldn’t figure it out

My magic intake “recipe”:
-Make the linkage of the intake be able to move up and down, but also sideways, this is because the magic intake uses the 24 tooth sprocket, and that is way to close together for the large ball rollers to pick up without the intake being allowed to expand sideways freely.
-Adjust the angle of the intake to be 15 degrees, and so that the bottom of the flaps at the frontmost of the intake is the height of an ipod on its side
-Slap on a sprocket with five sets of 2flaps side by side
-Put 4inch inside out traction wheels as large ball rollers

Season and add tuning as needed

I didn’t know that iPods are a common unit of measurement. Are we talking shuffle or touch.

You could simplify the recipe to:

  • “Add tuning as needed”

Sounds like my robot

The three things you need to pay attention to are roller height, traction, and flex. With focus, it took us about 5 hours to grab without a wall

Week 44, February 17 goes really in depth into what we did to grab without a wall: http://www.hydrarobotics.com/vtu-weekly-updates.html

Week 47 was when the rollers were at its best.

A good portion of the magic intake is in the height and angle. I would recommend using larger sprockets to allow more space for the balls, and more of an angle (but not too much). This would require attaching the intake on the outside of the linkage rather than the inside, but it could be worth it if you have time. I haven’t seen your current intake in action so I’ll leave that up to you.

The angle should be just enough to get the large balls well without sacrificing buckyballs. Experiment with other materials for large ball intakes, such as rubber banded sprockets or traction tires. Test, tune, and repeat.

After the intakes a hanging lock could be another project. It’s good you have multiple autonomous routines, make sure they are tested plenty and guaranteed to work. Autonomous is a big deal.

Ipod touch :stuck_out_tongue:

Great now I’m gonna get ask someone if I can borrow their ipod for a couple hours!

thanks everybody I got the big ball and magic intake working separately and now i’m putting them together
