is it a good idea? Has anyone tried it?
As most of the people on this form would say
Try it and find out
Part of engineering and the whole point of Vex is to learn from your mistakes and try new things.

From my experience, with a 4 motor PTO you could do this very effectively. With 5:1, I could intake a line of 5 clusters in about 10-12 seconds with 1 of these jamming the whole intake. With 4:1, there is nearly no jams at the cost of a second or two.
plus i need to be able to clear the supply zone faster
my 4:1 jams sometimes anyway, do you think i should try a 5:1? it probably will be like running 3:1 on 2 motor
So how it works is if you have 4:1 speed with 1 motor it has 4:1 torque. However, if you have 4:1 speed with 2 motors the speed remains but the torque goes to 2:1. You can use this logic as seeks fit.
