53999F Early Season Reveal

robo eagles were not at PSLA. Ours appeared to be the first competition they are registered for this year. How did CORE do? They are usually competitive? Also what happened to TORQ? we won with them at PSLA but they appeared to struggle in the footage i watched?

We were in an alliance with CORE’s E team. They have the same design as us and can stack 5-6 cubes. TORQ had some technical difficulties with their tray and intakes. They had to remove the top portion of their tray and I don’t think they ever got their intakes back to full strength.

Just wanted to check; did you receive the PM I sent? I figured we would talk individually so we don’t fill up the forum

I saw the PM. Just left some replies

alright in the finals what’s up with the illegal match loading. The auton bonus cubes are supposed to be introduced touching your alliance field wall and also are only to be introduced During driver control.

lol I noticed that too. Must be unexperienced refs I guess.

In the drivers meeting the announcer said that match loads could be placed anywhere on the field. I was pretty sure otherwise but I didnt go to the meeting. My teammate did. Our team kept it to the wall but didn’t notice if our opponents did it or not. Later on in the day we saw it blatently happen and a teammate told the ref. The ref checked and aknowledged that it shouldn’t happen. He said it was too late in the day to tell everybody about the apparent rule change so he let it continue. It was never really match affecting so it was no big deal. Later on if that same thing happens we’ll say something about it.

I noticed your drive base is fairly wide. Are you able to place two stacks in the larger goal zone?

This is the most entertaining reveal I’ve ever seen

Nope. We are fixing that for next competition though. We can’t even get in the small zone with more than 4 cubes

Question about tray tilters. When going for 9 cubes is it better to use a compound ratio for 1:15(1:3 and 1:5) or 1:25(1:5 and 1:5)? Is 1:25 necessary or will 1:15 do the job fine?

For many teams, a well built 1:7 is enough. From what I have seen, 1:15 should be enough to get the job done.

1:15 may work well for early season, but as the bots get faster a 1:7 may be necessary. A little bit of speed may be necessary to get around defense as well.

I think 1:7 works. I had a 1:7 with a single 393 motor until I switched to v5 last week, and it could no 7 cubes no problem

Nice robot! Looks like it could be very competitive.

Our current robot uses a 100RPM 5:1 ratio and it works fine. Granted, it only moves 7 cubes right now because we took off the third stage of our tray, but it did work with 9.

Make your front and back rollers the same size, and use smaller flaps. It seems that once you get the cube into the intake, the back rollers intake them fine, but it looked like the front rollers didn’t do too much to help. Smaller flaps are less flimsy than the larger ones, so using them will add more compression, and if that means you have to either use bigger sprockets or bring them closer to the center, so be it. If you are completely rebuilding the intake to try the layered rollers, make sure you also lock them in place better, your rollers seemed to move around a lot in the reveal…

Update: The robot is now able to place 2 stacks of 7 in the large zone and 1 stack of 7 in the smaller zone. We moved the intakes slightly further back and I did a little driver practice. Next is the telescoping tray. Also, the tray gear ratio is now 1:15 and works great. Thanks guys!

Has anybody tried rubber banding their tray…?

I thought about it but it seems to me like with the forces of the bands, the tray might go past vertical and push the stack over. With some kind of stop it might be worth a try.

I’d make sure that your arm when fully extended only goes to 90deg on the stack. You can also do a P control loop to slow down the tilter as you tilt up.

I like your robot, but I have a couple of questions. Have you been having issues with tipping despite the ant tip on your lift, or your intake breaking?

We have an unusually large base so there is no problem with the lift down holding a full stack but when the lift is up if I don’t drive carefully we can tip. We haven’t tipped so far, even outside of competition
