6 MOTOR TURBO

Anyone knows if a 6 motor 6 wheel turbo drive on small wheels will burn out? Anyone tried before?

With small wheels and a not overly heavy robot you should be able to pull it off. (and careful driving to minimize current peaks)

On 2.75" wheels 6 motor turbo you could drive the robot as hard as you want, and with as much weight as you want.
Cant burn out on that setup.

This may be an overly optimistic statement =) From past experience I know that based on build quality and weight you can have issues with that particular setup. If it is built well and not a 50 pound robot, then I would agree.

A 4 motor 160 rpm 4" tank drive has 18.45inch-lb of stall torque.
A 6 motor 240 rpm 2.75" tank drive has 26.8inch-lb of stall torque.

It is incredibly difficult to stall out a drive with that much torque…

so you think that if I build it light enough I can get away with 6 motor 6 wheel turbo drive with small wheels? Have you guys done it before?

My former team did Turbo gears on 4 inch wheels with 4 motors on a 12lb robot. They somehow didn’t stall out probably because they were fast enough to move away from pushing battles. Wouldn’t recommend though.

Turbo motors on 2.75" wheels is virtually the same as high speed motors on 4" wheels, a theoretical speed of 34.6 in/s vs 33.5 in/s respectively. So with 6 motors you should have no problem at all unless there is excessively high friction, which would be a problem with any gear ratio anyways.

During Toss-Up, we thought that speed was very crucial to winning, which is why we had a 6 motor turbo chassis on 4" omni wheels. Furthermore, these motors were geared it externally 2:1 for speed, which made us incredibly fast. This drive setup is for lightweight robots and took months to learn how to efficiently drive.

turbo motors didn’t exist in toss up?

Whoops my bad, meant high speed externally geared 2:1 for speed.

U should do a reveal for your robot. Too good.

In skyrise, we had a 28 pound robot that was originally geared turbo with small wheels. It worked fine, but halfway through the year, decided to go high speed. As long as you are not a super heavy robot, it should work.

In skyrise, turbos did not exist

Cough yes they did. Pretty much every VEXU drive base used them.

oh okay my bad

They were introduced at worlds 2014 (toss-up)

what about an 8 motor mecanum drive with torque motors geared 1:9 for torque :stuck_out_tongue:

What about an 12 motor mecanum drive with torque motors geared 1:49 for torque X_X

Robot hits wall… Robot keeps going… Sadly the speed is so slow its progress is invisible. :stuck_out_tongue:

What about 12 turbo motors geared for speed? I suppose at some point it becomes uncontrollable.
