62 Qualification Outrage

I understand that is what people are taking from what Cameron Schiller wrote. Here’s his quote:

Is he stating that Tarek told him Karthik’s ruling is no longer valid? It seems like he (Cameron Schiller) used careful language to avoid making that claim.

I suspect this part of the issue is a case of impassioned advocacy mixed with a bit of misunderstanding and miscommunication. Occam’s Razor informs my belief that Tarek’s call to a current GDC member DID NOT result in a revocation of Karthik’s prior rulings.

Further, it is not at all clear that any rule change took place. It seems a reasonable person (or referee) could look at what happened on the field for 1-2 seconds in real time and determine that they believed the movement of the opposing mobile goal using the mobile goal mover was a rules violation. That does not require a rule change.

I would love to see Cameron Schiller and team 62A able to compete at VEX Worlds. I don’t know what the issues are. But as heartfelt as Cameron Schiller’s description and pleas are, they don’t represent the only interpretation of the events, or any sort of absolute truth.

I suspect their chances of competing would greatly improve with accepting some responsibility for what happened, an honest apology to the team they helped disqualify, and private rather than public communications on this issue.

Here’s an old post to consider:
