8059 - SingNat 2024 Reveals

Hi all,

For those that are not aware - here’s 8059 SingNat Reveal for Over Under.

This time round, we have decided to showcase both our award winning robots that adopted 2 contrasting approaches to the game.

And also taking this opportunity to announce the sad news that 8059 will be sitting out this year’s worlds.
We do qualified for worlds, but just couldn’t get the necessary go-ahead to fly over this time round.
We won’t get the opportunity to extend our streak of 5-times consecutive division champion this year.

Leaving this reveal to all of you… hopefully it will represent some of the best engineered robots that (qualified, but) will not be attending worlds this time round.

PS… have fun at worlds! and do support 8076 teams that will be representing singapore.

PPS… do feel free to ask any questions about the robots - i will get my students to reply.

Thank you for knocking me out. Good luck at worlds!

@meng was hoping to see you at Worlds this year. Sad you won’t be there.

A bientôt! future seasons provide opportunities to meet…

This is one of the craziest vex stats I’ve ever seen; worlds will miss you a lot.

I guess it’s as you said, lose and you don’t get funding, win and you still don’t get funding :sob:

Oh my bad I didn’t read the text.

Honestly, you guys shouldn’t feel bad since your school gets way more funding than ours.

No worries.

Btw, which team are you from?
sorry… we do knocked out many teams in our long history… lol…

but really, please don’t take it personal

hmm… i am pretty sure you are not in any of my school management team to know what sort of funding we are getting.
So don’t think it is right to make sweeping statement like these. It is uncalled for.

And I also don’t see how the amount of funding we get should determine whether or not we should be disappointed for not going to worlds?

btw, do focus on robot designs, gameplay and driving skills, instead of just putting the blame on funding.
FYI - we are still using 2 year-old motors for singnat, no pneumatics for junior teams (because we can’t afford it) and we are still working on 8 teams sharing 2 hacksaws sort of budget.

Love the robots! Our team is taking some inspiration from the “pancake” one for worlds.

After a series of single design games, we finally have one with varying strategies and designs. Hats off to Vex!

Thanks.
Actually there is supposed to be one more evolution to 8059A - the team wanted to modify the blocker to double up to hang on the horizontal bar as well.
But decided to stop work on it.

Maybe you guys can bring this idea forward.

Like @lacsap I was looking forward to seeing you, but on the other hand my May may have become $2K less expensive , I can go next year.

 Yes, that’s a discussion for sure, stay tuned!

Love the flatbot. However, that drivetrain looks on the slower side for top teams. I think flatbots with working intakes are one of the best designs.

Think they were trying to get a balance of speed and also having enough torque to push through a jammed packed goal.

But it is actually faster than it was moving in the reveal.
Let me try to find the clip where it was playing defence in a 1v2 situation in the elimination…

sigh… we still couldn’t get our “mentors dinner” up.

make sure our teams qualify for next year worlds, and then we can have a proper dinner.

I am sure that it will be disappointing for the students whom have put in hours of efforts, qualified for Worlds and only to be informed that they will not be going to the Worlds!

Maybe the parents of 8059Z can consider to fund their children instead?

it is not just about funding.
there are many other issues as well (which i don’t think this is the place to discuss).
but in a nutshell - the trip is just not approved.

To all the members of 8059A, I am so sorry for getting stuck in the net :frowning:

It’s ok. Still managed to win that game.
Looking at the bright side, it was an opportunity for 8059a to showcase their defensive ability.
