824c Experimental Fast drives

Just making a post of all the drives we’ve experimented with this year. Our robots have generally been light this year so we haven’t had many problems with overheating. This year, having a fast drive will be crucial and you should be testing the limit of the vex motors and having some type of code to help your drive. I’ll post more videos of our robot in action once my teammate sends me the videos. :stuck_out_tongue:

Here are all the drives we’ve tested so far and have used in competition:

6 motor x- drive turbo on 3.25 (This was an autonomous so the turning is a lot faster than pictured. The main problem with this drive was that the strafing and contact with all four wheels was inconsistent. When we would grab heavier loads of stars the robot would tip forward slightly and because we had 4 motors at the front the back motors would struggle to keep up with the fast gear ratio. We also found that x drives made it harder, but not impossible to hang.) :

6 motor turbo drive on 3.25 (Really solid drive. If you burnout with this setup, there must be something wrong with your friction or your robot is too heavy):

4 motor high speed on 4 ( ran this drive at our last competition. Our “drop center” made it difficult to get enough traction because the placement wasn’t exactly over the middle and our robot was very light. If you choose to have a drop center, be sure to place the wheels in a place that gives good traction. Overall, a little on the safer side but still a good choice for speed. we went on the safer side in terms of chances of burning out. Our problems with burning out at the beginning of our last competition were due to our 1:5 high speed arm . We had the whole arm on the power expander and used a lot of elastics to give a fast flick that would burn us out after stress testing so we were forced to change to a high speed 1:7 arm midway through the comp which worked fine.) :

Kind of a showcase of all the different “rebuilds” of our drive this year. Different drives will complement different arms and intakes and overall weights. That being said, we will probably be perfecting a faster drive to complement our new arm. A full reveal of our robot can be expected in the upcoming weeks.
