9.6V NiCd Battery Pack

Now that you sell the 7.2V NiCd battery as a separate item, please also offer the 9.6V transmitter battery pack. I don’t need any more charging stations, and 7.2V batteries are pretty easy to find locally, but I haven’t found a good source of the transmitter batteries.

Thanks,

  • Dean

My local Radio Shacks used to sell them (last spring/summer - I haven’t looked since then) Maybe you can find some there. - Blake

Any idea what the RS part# would be? I looked on their website, and they just don’t provide enough detail to tell if it would fit. I guess I have to go there in person

Here is the one I was looking at: 23-342, though I really don’t like that every pack comes with another charger…

try this:

and this for a charger:
[RobotShop | Robot Store | Robots | Robot Parts | Robot Kits | Robot Toys

kind of overpriced but if you really need it (although in total thats more than the power pack)](RobotShop | Robot Store | Robots | Robot Parts | Robot Kits | Robot Toys)

and this for a charger:

Well, I’ve got all the chargers I need, which is why the RS battery coming with its own charger annoyed me.

As for the battery pack, the RadioShack one is NiCd @ 1000mAh for $20, and the one at RobotShop is MiMH @ 730mAh for $24. I don’t really need NiMH, so I don’t think the price premium is worth it.

If the RS one fits, I’ll probably pick up one of those… (Though I really want my entire collection to be that nice Vex blue.)

Thanks,

i know, i said it was overpriced, just if you need a last option (i.e. the radioshack one doesnt fit)

I just picked up one of the Radio Shack batteries (23-342) and can say that it does fit the Vex transmitter and works just fine. For $20, you get a 9.6V 1000mAh NiCd battery and a 5-hour wall-wart style charger. The charger will charge either NiCd batteries or NiMH (it has a switch).

They also sell a NiMH version of the kit for $25 (23-432). My 7.2V batteries always run down before my 9.6V batteries do, so I figured the extra 600mAh wasn’t really worth the extra cost. Since I don’t have one of these, I can’t promise it’ll work, though it appears to be the identical size/shape.

I have to say it looks a bit, well, tacky sitting next to my very distinguished blue Vex batteries.
I guess I’m just a Vex fan-boy

who cares about looks?

I have a couple of those RC/PACK batteries that I got from Radio Shack last Summer, but they are 1600mAh, Ni-Cad and they fit the Vex Transmitter just fine.
