about top30 teams qualify world championship competition

Hi guys,
I noticed that on the ranking page of IQ, it seems top30 are qualified to world’s.
But I remember last year, it is only qualify top3 of skill ranking.
Does anyone know this for sure?

Thanks!

For details on the VEX Worlds Qualifying Criteria for the 2015-16 season, please review the Qualifying Criteria document on the VEX IQ Event Documents site: http://www.roboticseducation.org/vex-iq-challenge/viq-event-documents/

The vex-iq-skills-only-event guide states:
“The top thirty Robot Skills and top thirty Programming Skills teams listed in the World Skills Rankings as of March 7, 2016 will earn spots in the VEX IQ World Championship.”

Along this topic… Why are the “World Skills Rankings” not listing this year’s rankings. There have been plenty of competitions and I’m sure everyone wants to know what the top scores are without having to search through all of those competitions.

We are in the Elementary Division and to Qualify for the World Championships it states “Skills Scores will qualify a team for the World’s Top 30: Mar 07, 2016”

Does an Elementary Team need to finish in the Top 30 among the Elementary Division, or Top 30 of BOTH Middle and Elementary Division? I ask since there is an Elementary Worlds and a Middle School Worlds.

My guess is that it is between both.

It is between both… if you look at the ranking the ones that are so far in the Top 30 have a light green (kind of minty) background. Those are the Top 30, if you select lets say Elementary school, you will see that only the ones that where in the Top 30 are still marked in the light green background and the position still remains the same as it was when there where MiddleSchool and Elementary School teams.

I’m wondering if teams that have already qualified for Worlds would be included in the top 30 when they do the final count? For instance, the returning world champions are already invited to this year’s event. If they are ranked #30, would the ranking be extended to the 31st team? It seems like most of the teams that rank in the 30 would have won some type of championship and will already be qualified.

The qualification criteria (http://www.roboticseducation.org/documents/2014/01/vex-iq-challenge-world-championship-qualifying-criteria.pdf) says:

If there is a tie in the rankings, or space becomes available to accommodate more teams, then additional team(s) may be invited to the World Championship, in order of their World Skills Rankings as of March 7, 2016. The next highest ranked Programming Skills team in the World Skills Rankings will receive the first invitation, and subsequent invitations will alternate between the next highest Robot and then Programming Skills ranking until all spots are filled.

But a tie isn’t really the same thing. The real question is “will 30 teams that are not already qualified get skills invitations?”

I think the answer to your question is No. (not official)

I’m pretty sure it’s more of a guarantee for teams that score well enough to be in the top 30, but may come from a state with many other good VEX team, and would not otherwise qualify.
