About VEXnet Connectivity Issues...

I know many of those who read this forum have been upset about Bo1 at Worlds this year, with the primary counterargument being unpredictable VEXnet issues.

The way to prevent, or at least reduce, those issues is to discourage the use of hotspots, at least on 2.4Ghz, by your fellow teams and coaches, especially near the fields.

I captured these at the scoring table for VRC HS Technology division.

I mean the enterprise grade APs pointed directly at the field can’t be helping…

Also the issues we were worried about were mainly field control related disconnects.

I noticed the Unifi APs too. My first thought was, “I commend [the relevant people] on their choosing and implementing of these APs.” Why wasn’t I annoyed? Because the event staff are smart enough to use 5Ghz only. I confirmed this by checking the network the tablets were connected to – it only showed up when I was polling 5Ghz frequencies. The staff network also only showed up on 5Ghz.

Except, after analysis of multiple examples given, they turned out not to be field control-related – the most plausible explanation was VEXnet interference.

Addendum:
Freedom Hall was pretty bad too. I have no idea what use so many people are gaining from operating hotspots during Freedom Hall ceremonies, but people are apparently gaining something.

i spy robopatties in that picture :stuck_out_tongue: [look for the blue hats]
