I’m flying to dallas and have my robot/parts all in a big wooden box. its got foam padding and such to keep id safer. I have a picture of the robot and a copy of the email of the invitation to Dallas for the world championship, along with details of the box’s contents stapled to the outside and inner lid of the box. I’m very worried and nervous about getting through airport security, as there are batteries and wires which i know they dont like. I made sure everything was disconnected and the batteries are in seperate plastic bags in the wooden box. Any tips to make the whole process easier?
We labelled almost everything… our robot has no batteries on or near it, the batteries themselves are all independent of each other in a seperate box and the wires are attached with rubber bands to the battery itself. Our robot box has good instructions for handling… last year one of the steel chassis rails on our robot got bent at a ridiculous angle - probably because it was hard to stuff in the boxes.
And… We’re all going to the airport by 11AM PST - See you all in Dallas!!
Going both ways to Dallas I forget that the batteries might be an issue and just jumbled them in with the robot. Also I didn’t put any labels on the box, just a plain 20" by 20" by 20" box. And TSA didn’t open it going either way.
The boxes that TSA did open for use where very will sealed with TSA tape when we picked them up at the airport, so I think that you don’t need to worry too much.
