I’m wondering if you score a ring on the opposite color wall stake on top of the proper color (ex: blue ring on top of a red ring on the red stake), would the red ring still be a top ring? The way the rules are currently written is that:
If a [Ring] of the opposing color ends the [Match] in a [Scored] position on an [Alliance] Wall [Stake] that [Ring] should not be considered [Scored] and will not earn points for either [Alliance] it will still, however, count toward the maximum number of 2 [Rings] that can be placed on an [Alliance] Wall [Stake].
The two aspects of this rule make me unsure of how that work, as the blue ring won’t count as scored, so red should be top ring. Yet, since the blue ring counts as taking the place of one of the two allowed rings, then no, it shouldn’t count. Is there anyone who might be able to clarify this?
I don’t think is matters, per SG10: Alliance Wall Stakes are protected. Robots may not directly or indirectly interact with the opponent’s Alliance Wall Stake. This includes both Scoring and/or removing Rings of either color.
For the purposes of this rule, “Score” (and “remove”) means causing them to satisfy (or no longer satisfy) the criteria listed in .
So seeing as you can’t score on that opposing alliances walk stake anyways, you would just get a minor. I guess you could still ask the Q&A though.
The reason I recommended a Q&A is because what might be the top ring is under an illegal ring - what is the official designation of that ring under the illegal ring status . I’d rather err on having a Q&A give a definitive answer vs what referees might think is obvious.
Maybe the answer is “top rings are rings that are legally considered as scored as top most ring on a stake”
