You can get about 30 in comfortably and cram about a max of 60 in one trough
Why not just built a gateway NZ bot and use the polycarbonate to block the opponent troughs?
Last year, most teams said “Robots should hold AT LEAST 4-5 objects”
Most teams I saw didn’t hold more than 3 at a time, maybe 4, even if they had the capacity to hold more.
This is all because sometimes, it makes more sense strategically to score rather than to pick up more. Therefore, deciding how many objects your robot should hold is very hard to predict.

When a quarter of the people responding to this poll indicate that they think a robot should be able to hold at least 20lbs of sacks, it makes me wonder how much people have actually thought about the implications of it.
If you stack up 40 objects, it would be a 5.5"x5.5" stack of objects 30" high.
If you want to store them in your robot, you’re looking at probably 3 stacks that are each ~10" high and 5.5"x5.5".
That’s pretty much a third of the volume of your robot. And you still have to have something that intakes the sacks, something that stacks the sacks neatly, and something that can lift up all that weight (not to mention a drive base to move 35+lbs).
I would much prefer to comfortably hold 10 sacks and score them quickly without having to worry about the huge forces mentioned above.
If you can build a robot that can descore the troughs and suck up all the sacks on the field and hold them until the end of the match at which point it tries to dump them all into the troughs, do you really think no one will be blocking you? No doubt the other team will notice what you’re doing and won’t let you score anything.
well then thats why you design your robot to counter the counter
you can have a super “tank” bot that has a slow drive, but it just slowly picks up and near the end of the match, they have a fair amount in their bucket
they just need to build a drive that can push/maneuver their way around the blockers and unlatch their pin for the super catapult dump (1103 in CS)
only scores once, only needs to score once

1103’s Clean Sweep robot scored frequently and scored quickly.
If you manage to make a super-stacker-type robot this year, I’ll be impressed, but it’s pretty risky in matches as to whether you can make the dump or not.
1103 usually had 2-3 successful dumps
but thats because of the size limitations (sacks are a lot smaller)
i think a single dump super bucket would be possible this year
since the final dump is triggered by pneumatics (or a motor ;))
that leaves you with 8 HS on the drive and 2 on the intake
and if there was a transmission in there as well…
An 8-motor Mecanum drive geared 2:3 (for torque) on a robot that can hold 30lbs of stuff? I’d love to see that just for the awesomeness
By the way that’s a lot of pneumatics…
I would recommend (instead of pneumatics) to lift the final load using a lot of rubber bands that are stretched for the whole match until a pin is pulled out by pneumatics, releasing it all at once. Oh the danger…
