Amphibious Vex?

I have been thinking… Maybe Vex could make some inflatable air things and make parts, waterproof. Im talking about an amphibious vex… You know, land and water… Just a thought…

u mean like a hover craft?

youve got the idea, but more like “drive on land” “float on water”

like inflatables on the sides, and a rudder and engine.

Get my point?

ya i get it mabe u can add a small porpeler in the back and some how make it water proof i can do the rest but i dont know how u woud get it water proof

but it’s a good idea:D

I have some sort of spray sealer for waterproofing, but its empty and i dont know where to get more.:frowning:

i would just try to make it so that you can drive and land and drive right into the water without any thing blowing up of infatables or the like
you could do this using gears and five in tires putting the motors out of the water the wheels would extend done below the hull of your ship the propeller would extend down in the same

be careful- make sure your boat floats before you put it in to the water with electronics on it. i’ve lost a motor (it wasn’t vex) because my boat tip of when i tried to turn around

I meant like long baloons on the sides, they would be inflated the whole time, as it just rolls into the water.

Water proofing is another case.

the balloons along the side could be considered pontoon’s and thats a great idea. but do a google search and you will find…

looks cool

and that one is well i’ll let it speak for itself.

good luck i’m not touching this bot. too many projects going on.](http://www.history.com/media.do?action=clip&id=mm_amphicar_broadband&gclid=CLSGjLX124gCFQpzGgodnmX9kQ)

thanks for the encouragment:)

those two linked sites looked awesome. i have seen a modern version of the amphibious car, but it is bit more than that. about 1 million more. :frowning: but hey, it looks reaally cool.

as for vex, that would be a first to me. i would like to see someone make it work.

Yeah its kinda a hard one to build though. Its either make it on your first try, or have your kit go down in flames, oops i mean “the ocean”.

lol good point.

but you would have to seriously test the hull for bouyancy with weight, before adding anything valuable.

The force from forward motion is another factor. Thats when all the equiptment is loaded too.

i think killersvexdrive told me that he made a vex bot that floated on water but he ruined like 3 motors :frowning:

yeah, that might be a problem.

hey guys i just ordered a another vex kit, (for more parts). but i plan to make a vex boat. im thinking eather useing a sysrem likee sea legs or just weild a metal box in the shape of a boat and put a wood top on it. than put the vex in. but it micht thun more into a submarene than a boat. but if i do that id like to run a bilage pump. is there a way i can turn it on and off with the controller?

you could hook it up to a spike relay. which in turn connects to the microcontroller, which would be progammed. that should work.

i made one with 4 longest L shaped parts,4 big threaded beams,2 chassis rails, 4 2 liters and the paddel was made from the two sheet plates wrapped in duct tape, the rudder was the two other chassis rails wraped in duct tape sorry for the spelling and no pics are avilible

A fairly good idea for sealing your electronics is to put them in a balloon and then ziptie the end shut and maybe use some silicon but that makes everything harder to access, but that is what I did to waterproof my Nitro T-maxx and since then my servos will not not shut down unless completely submerged in water.

It’s a neat idea, but I think Vex should stick with land robot parts for now. There’s nothing to stop you from making some custom parts for an amphibious robot, though.
