I don’t understand why the three angle beams are called 30 Degree Angle Beam, 45 Degree Angle Beam & 60 Degree Angle Beam? In my limited math knowledge, they should be numbers over 90 degrees. Why are they labeled as what I would think would be their complementary angle? I’m not sure how to explain this to my students.
The value is the amount of deflection from a straight beam.
If you were to add to your picture, on the far left end, a 1 x 5 beam and label it as “0 degree” then the others will all make sense.
Of course; if you name the straight beam a “180 degree angle beam” then the others names do not make sense.

Lay them down in the mirrored position of what you have now, then it may make more sense.
