i have some 269 motors and they lock up when i try to manually turn them is this in the design of the motor or is it a defect i happened to stumble upon?

Most of our motors are backdrivable, but there are some that do not have that ability (they lock). Personally I have seen both kinds of motors and the backdrive issue does not affect the performance of the motor while being energized by our microcontrollers; however, if you feel like this issue limits the performance of your robot, feel free to contact us at support@vexrobotics.com for further troubleshooting.
