Answered: 4WD Plans

Where do i find instuctions to do this?

How do i make my my squarebot 4 wheel drive?

The squarebot already is 4WD. The motors in the center drive both wheens through the geartrain.

I’m not sure what you’re asking.

Mr. V-Neun

What i am asking is how to build a version of squarebot that has a motor attached to each wheel (4WD). thank you for answering my post in the first place.

We do not have instructions provided for this.

Simply mount the 4-motors to your chassis (similarly to how they are mounted in the squarebot) in the positions where you want your wheels.

You should have 2 chassis rails in usage. The outer-rail would have a bearing mounted to it at each wheel location. The inner-rail would have a motor mounted to it at each wheel location.

For each wheel:
*]Run an axle from the motor, though the bearing so it is hanging outside the chassis.
*]Install a shaft collar in between the inner and outer chassis rails to keep the shaft from sliding out.
*]Install the wheel on the part of the shaft sticking out from the chassis. (You may need to place a spacer in between the wheel and the chassis to keep it from scraping on the chassis rail.)
*]Place a shaft collar on the shaft to hold the wheel on.
You can see an example of what I’m describing, in the attached image.
(Repeat that 4 times.)

Hope this helps.

John

Details on activating the 4-Motor drive can be seen on page 7-12 of the Vex Inventor’s Guide.

For 4WD with 2-stick “Tank Style” Drive:
*]Plug the FRONT-RIGHT motor into Motor Port # 2
*]Plug the FRONT-LEFT motor into Motor Port # 3
*]Plug the BACK-RIGHT motor into Motor Port # 7
*]Plug the BACK-LEFT motor into Motor Port # 8

*]Place a Jumper into I/O Jumper Port # 15 to activate 4WD Mode with Tank Steering
**For 4WD with 1-Stick “Joystick Style” Drive:
*] Plug the FRONT-RIGHT motor into Motor Port # 2
*] Plug the FRONT-LEFT motor into Motor Port # 1
*] Plug the BACK-RIGHT motor into Motor Port # 7
*] Plug the BACK-LEFT motor into Motor Port # 8

] Place a Jumper into I/O Jumper Port # 16 to activate 4WD Mode with Joystick Steering
] Place a Jumper into I/O Jumper Port # 14 to activate Joystick Steering
Thanks a bunch, john, those last few posts really helped. i did not think to put a bearing on it at all, so i probably would have torn up my motors.

Thanks Again,
