I know the gateway rules manual specifies you can replace any part with something that functions exactly the same way. I’d like to get some LED indicators for signaling, but at this point it’s not worth doing another online order from VEX just for them.

Are indicators such as in this thread legal alternatives?

Let’s take a look at the applicable rule from the VEX Gateway Game Manual.

<R7> Robots are allowed the following additional “non-VEX” components:
b. Any parts which are identical to legal VEX parts. For the purposes of this rule, products which are identical in all ways except for color are permissible. Note: It is up to inspectors to determine whether a component is “identical” to an official VEX component.

Thus, if the LED you find is identical to the ones from VEX, it will be legal for use.
