Answered: Bracing robot against far side of fence

Hi Karthik

I have seen many robots that have a physical stop to prevent them from driving too far under the fence. The stop works by hitting against the bottom bar of the fence and stopping the robot.

My question is, would it be legal to make a stop on a robot that popped up on the far side of the fence with the intent of preventing an opposition robot from pushing this robot backwards? The stop would only react against one side of the fence.

Thanks for clarifying.

As always, it’s difficult to issue blanket rulings on hypothetical situations. However in this case, it sounds like this robot would be dangerously close to having anchored themselves to the field, and being a risk to damaging the fence. As such, there’s a strong possibility that this type of action during a match could be considered illegal.
