Please help to clarify the use of Time out
The Rule:
<T04> There are no time outs in the qualifying rounds; in the elimination rounds, each alliance will be allotted ONE time out of no more than three minutes. The matches must progress according to schedule.
Can I call time out anytime during the game, say half way through? When it say ONE time out, does it mean ONE per Tournament Match, I mean if I won the first match and went up the ladder, I can call another time out during my next match?
Thanks
Time outs can only be called PRIOR to the start of an elimination match, NOT DURING one and are normally only used when one or more of an alliance’s robots is not ready to compete in its next elimination match. Once a match begins, it will be played until it is completed, unless stopped by official event personnel. A team or alliance cannot halt any match (qualifying or elimination) in progress in any way, including the use of a time out during an elimination match. As for the rest of your question, each alliance will be allotted ONE time out of no more than three minutes during the ENTIRE elimination tournament.
For example, in a larger tournament at the conclusion of the qualifying rounds, team A selects teams B and C as alliance partners for the elimination rounds. While playing the alliance of teams D, E, and F in the Quarter-Finals, team A has a mechanism inadvertently damaged, but is scheduled to play in the upcoming elimination match with Team B. The alliance of teams A, B, and C may elect to call their one and only time out just prior to the start of the match to delay the start of that elimination match for up to 3 minutes while team A’s robot is repaired. Once that alliance uses that one time out and time expires, the elimination match will be run and that alliance cannot use another time out for the remainder of the elimination rounds no matter what other mishaps may occur with any of the alliance robots (A, B, or C in this example).
