Answered: Commercial 3D Printed Clip

Regarding this post, if someone were to design a clip, and 3D print it. Would it become legal if someone were to commercially sell said 3D printed clip?

If a commercial company whose products are available to all teams, such as McMaster or Home Depot, were to sell a cable management device and used 3D printing as their manufacturing process, then yes, this would be legal. Teams would need to be able to prove to an inspector that this is a commonly available part and that it is only being used for the purposes of bundling or wrapping of cables, per <R7l>.

3D printing a part and selling it to a friend does not constitute “commercially available”.

Commercially ordering a custom 3D print would not be legal. See this Q&A: https://vexforum.com/t/answered-commercially-ordering-a-3d-print/43963/1
