Hey Karthik. i was wondering what would be the ruling if tank tread flaps were outside the confines of the box while outside the climbing zone. Would this be egregious? would a team be penalized for this or would this be excused? thanks

Let’s take a look at the specific rule in question.

@VEX Robotics Competition Nothing But Net Game Manual

<SG3> A Robot may not expand beyond a volume of 18 inches wide by 18 inches long by 18 inches tall at any point during the Match, with the exception of the allowance listed in <SG10>. Minor violations of this rule that do not affect the match will result in a warning. Egregious (match affecting) offenses will result in a Disqualification. Teams that receive multiple warnings may also receive a Disqualification at the head referee’s discretion.

Although this may not be egregious, earning repeated warnings for doing so could result in a DQ. Also, if the only way your tank treads work is by being outside of the 18"x18"x18", any points scored for balls that were accumulated by these treads would immediately be considered when determining if the foul was match affecting.

Simply put, you need to find a way to keep these tank treads within the volume limitations to avoid being penalized.
