Hi Karthik,
This thread relates to your answer to Jason’s thread, and in particular this exchange:
The manual doesn’t mention when disqualifications should take place, but the referee training video stresses that disqualifications must happen at the end of the match. Because of the way “match affecting” is defined, the team who broke the rule in autonomous might outscore the other alliance by 100 points during driver control, making a disqualification unnecessary. The referees simply can’t know this at the end of autonomous.
In qualifications it is especially important to wait until the end of the match, since the team whose partner is being disqualified needs to have a chance to win the match on their own merits (or on the merits of the disqualified team. It’s not a perfect system, but it’s a necessary consequence of a 2 vs 2 match structure).
My question is: was it your intention to allow for disqualifications mid-match? If it was, could you please give some additional guidance on the types of circumstances in which mid-match disqualifications should be given?
Thanks.
