I have seen at some events, including on youtube, where the bottom velcro opening of the goal is left open during the match so that the balls fall through. In other cases the bottom is closed so the balls build up in the goal. As the goal fills up, there is a chance that the balls bounce out.

Is there a correct way to have the field set up, or is it just the preference of the event partner?

The bottom of the goal should be closed.
