Answered: Joystick Battery Mod?

I recently went to a tournament in Granada Hills and I saw a team with a modded battery in their joystick. I will attach a picture.

The had two aluminum blocks in the top battery ports and the two blocks had a wire attached to each leading to a connecter like on the end of the Power Expander. Connected to that they had these batteries: http://www.vexrobotics.com/products/accessories/power/276-2220.html

I have a few questions about this.

  1. Is it competition legal?
  2. If my team were to do this would we be able to make our own Joystick battery “door” in a 3D Printer?
  3. Would the Joystick run properly on that size battery rather then the normal 6 AAAs?

  2. Technically yes, but I don’t really think its necessary.

  3. Yup, the Joystick should run just fine with the VEX 9.6V Battery.
