Answered: Joystick Battery Mod?

I recently went to a tournament in Granada Hills and I saw a team with a modded battery in their joystick. I will attach a picture.

The had two aluminum blocks in the top battery ports and the two blocks had a wire attached to each leading to a connecter like on the end of the Power Expander. Connected to that they had these batteries: http://www.vexrobotics.com/products/.../276-2220.html

I have a few questions about this.

  1. Is it competition legal?
  2. If my team were to do this would we be able to make our own Joystick battery “door” in a 3D Printer?
  3. Would the Joystick run properly on that size battery rather then the normal 6 AAAs?

Thanks!

( I was told to move my thread here if I wanted an official answer so it won’t let me reupload the picture. If you want to see the picture it is attached to this post )

No, this is not competition legal. <R15a> (quoted below) strictly prohibits the use of any modified VEX electrical components.

I was talking to the guy who had then and they said that they got the idea from a team at worlds.
They said that they aren’t modifying the electronics in any way, they are just making their own battery.
Also, they were allowed to compete in the tournament. I am in no way saying they should have been DQ’d or asked to use regular batteries. I am just trying to figure out if it is legal.
Thanks

It is definitely not legal.

Ok thanks for letting me know!

You’re welcome!
