The Nothing-But-Net Game Manual, Game Definitions (page 7), defines the Low Goal - One of two trapezoidal areas of the foal tiles defined by the front of the High Goal and the tape line under the pipe, where teams can Score Balls and Bonus Balls. Are balls that may be resting on the foal inside the goal, but breaking the vertical plane at the goal side of the tape counted as scored?
At a recent match, some of the tape was almost even with the field side of the Goal Pipe. In this case, should balls be counted as scored if they were touching the foam on the goal side of the tape even if they were less than 50% under the pipe? At the match they counted balls as scored if the center of the ball was on the goal side of the center of the pipe. (All matches were scored the same way.)
What is the desired location of the tape? Page 7 of the Field Specs & Assembly Instructions show a dimension 130.38 Hanging Zone to Low Goa¬l pointing to the edge of the pipe. This may be a typo as the term Hanging Zone is used and the dimension is not to scale on the drawing and the other arrow points to the Loading Zone.
The STEP drawing downloaded 10-06-15 shows the tape to be 1.25" wide and parallel to; but offset 3/16" from the diagonal line joining the corners of the tiles. Other references indicate 3/4" wide tape.
The location of the field side of the low goal is critical to scoring, what is the best way to determine where the tape should be placed ? All the above is within the field tolerance of ± 1"
This also affects rule <SG9> Robots may not enter (i.e. break the plane) of any goal.
There are a few typos in your question that are making it hard for us to understand what you’re asking. We don’t want to misinterpret your question, so could you please re-ask it? (It’s hard to tell if “foal” means “goal” or “foam” or both depending on where it was used)
I apologize for the typos. I will proof read all future submissions.
The Nothing-But-Net Game Manual Definitions (page 7) defines the “Low Goal - One of the two (2) trapezoidal areas of foam field tiles defined by the front of the High Goal and the tape under the pipe, where teams can Score Balls and Bonus Balls.”
“Rule <SG9> Robots may not enter(i.e. break the plane) of any goal…”
I am trying to define exactly where the plane at the field side of the goal is located.
I may have an incorrect version or I may be misreading the Field step file that I downloaded from Vex on 10-06-15. I interpret the tape under the pipe to be 1-1/4" wide and offset 3/16" from the diagonal line joining the corners of the tiles.
The Field Specs & Assembly Instructions (page 12) and other references, refer to strips of White 3/4" Electrical Tape."
I understand that match rules allow field tolerance of +/- 1" and where the tape “is” placed overrides where the tape “should” be placed.
Some referees use the center of the pipe for Rule <SG9> and score balls if the center of the ball is past the center of the pipe others have used the field edge of the tape for Rule <SG9>.
As the position of the tape affects scoring (Low Goal definition) and potentially Disqualification Rule <SG9>. can you help clarify the location of the tape for the Low Goal?
It may be as simple as “the plane of the goal is the edge of the tape closest to the goal, no matter where the tape is” and not where someone thinks it was intended to be.
Official comments will be appreciated on this matter.
Thank you
As clarified here (https://vexforum.com/showpost.php?p=382667&postcount=2) the Low Goal extends from the front of the tape (i.e. the side of the tape closer to the center of the field) to the front edge of the High Goal. Just any Ball touching the tape line would be considered to be in the Low Goal.
They should be using the field edge of the tape in all cases.
